Devonport Services 50 – 22 Exeter Athletic 7/4/19
Exeter put up a strong defence against Services in the final plate battle, pushing the opposing team all the way, before a deserved win for Services in their quest to win the plate. The defeat will be a disappointment to Exeter but the team should be congratulated for showing determination and resilience through to the final whistle.
With the sun in the sky and a cool, moderate breeze both sides set off at a rapid pace. Exeter defended well and pushed hard to strike two tries in the first ten minutes of the game. Followed by a successful conversion this saw the opposition 12 – 0 on the score board.
Services responded by hard defending, aggressive tackling and fast wing action – substitutions being made to sustain pressure on the opposition. This show of tight team work and determined play culminated in the impressive final score.
