On a beautiful and sunny afternoon, we took on Exmouth II in the league.
We are in third place, we should be in second but Exeter Saracens have played one more game than us and Torquay. Exmouth are third from the bottom of the league.
We started with a bang after they kicked off to us,
Inside a minute we had scored, the ball was taken, it went to Charle Groves who ran down the middle of the pitch from one twenty-two to deep into theirs, offloaded to Ethan Hilland who took it very close to their lines, stopped it went to Al Thomas who went over, the Matt Anstis conversion was missed. 5-0.
Then on six minutes another try just about from the kickoff, we won a penalty in their half, Matt Anstis went for a five yard lineout, and we took it and mauled but were stopped short, after a little fiddling about Yianni Costas got the ball and was strong enough to burrow through the defenders and over the line at the drive in end corner flag, again the conversion missed. 10~0.
On minute thirteen we won a penalty and Matt Anstis kicked for another lineout, it was perfectly placed,
The throw was to the back, Al Thomas caught it and before him was the well known barn door, through he want taking the defenders by surprise to score unopposed.
The Matt Anstis conversion went over and the score now stood at 17~0.
From the restart, we scored try number four and quick ball to the right wing, through a couple of hands, and lastly to No 8 Ethan Millard who crossed, a defender tried to get hold of him but was able to touch down. Matt Anstis converted. 24~0. With this score the try bonus point.
Then a try to Charlie Groves, back from breaking his hand in an earlier game, after the forwards got in close but could not get over due to the tight defence, the ball went out to the backs, Al Thomas was in the line and nearly got over but gave it to Charlie Groves who did and did so under the crossbar, the Matt Anstis conversion went over. 31~0.
From the kick off we took it, Al Thomas had a run down the middle, Matt Anstis got his hands on the ball, and then it got to Dylan Harbour who went in from the ten yard line to the corner by the entrance. The conversion was missed. 36~0.
Exmouth did eventually get into our twenty-two but made nothing of it.
Yet another try from the restart, a short move down the stand side then into the middle and to No 6 Khane Young who touched down, the Matt Anstis conversion went over.
43~0.
On thirty four minutes Exmouth got well into our twenty-two for the second time and one of the few times they were able to put together a sustained move. They got halfway across our twenty-two and won a penalty, we were penalised for not being far enough back so they took a scum, it didn’t come to much and we stole the ball and got out to near the halfway line.
A couple of minutes later a backs move through three pairs of hands down the stand side ended with Sam Fincham who angled in towards the posts and under the crossbar.
The Matt Anstis conversion went over. 50~0.
Right on the halftime whistle Exmouth put in a serious attack. I missed the build up but they got to our line, and attacked five or six times till eventually Tom Musto went over about halfway out from the posts Chris Wright put over a decent conversion. 50~7.

So at the break it had been all us, you will seldom see a more one-sided half of rugby. Exmouth tackled well and stuck to it but our passing and support was fast and accurate, and for once there were few handling errors. The speed of the backs was the key.
The lineouts were good from both teams but Exmouth just had it in the scrums, we occasionally pushed them back one or or twice seriously, but they were nudging us back regularly. They were quite strong in the rucks and mauls as well.

The second half kicked off with Exmouth now with the sun in their eyes and we were playing towards the school.
Seven minutes in and a try to Matt Richards, we attacked their line, eventually got over but could not touch down but the referee was playing advantage and took it back to the stand side, a tap penalty and down the line it went to Matt Richards who crossed by the groundsman’s hut. The Matt Anstis kick went over. 57~7.
After that we were under a little pressure from Exmouth but eventually we stole the ball and counter attacked down the stand side. A fast run then a chip through towards the posts had Dylan Harbour winning the foot race, the Matt Anstis conversion went over. 64~7.
Eighteen minutes and a yellow card to Exmouth.
Then in their twenty-two we went for the line but it was well defended so we used the backs, it got to Matt Anstis who under pressure did a sort of blind back pass, to cheers from the crowd, hoping someone would be there, there was and it ended with Matt Richard scoring his second. Matt Anstis’s conversion went over. 71~7.
On twenty-eight minutes we were attacking through the backs down the stand side, the final pass to Sam Fincham was far too high and it was knocked on and went into touch. They won the scrum and played it on but Olly Whitfield stole the ball and drove towards their line, stopped it went inside and towards the stand for Sam Fincham to run it in, the conversion was missed. 76~7.
Our last try came at the hands of Ethan Hilland on thirty-five minutes after we were stopped about eight feet out by stout defence from Exmouth, the ball went along the line to Ethan who had a gap in the defence in front of him to make an easy few steps for the try line, the Matt Anstis conversion went over. 83~7.
Exmouth spent the last five minutes defending their line winning a scrum which they won, playing out of defence they lost the ball forward, the referee blew then blew again for full time.
A few years ago Exmouth II were a very strong side and we have been on the end of a number of +100 points losses to them. Evidently, the tide has turned.
Afterwards Dylan Harbour was man of the match and Al Thomas Dick of the day. After scoring two tries inside thirteen minutes he was then judged to have then spent the next sixty-seven minutes avoiding scoring another and having to buy a round of drinks.
The Exmouth Man of the Match and their Dick of the Day also had to stand on chairs for the drinking race and managed to salvage a fair bit of pride for the club in winning it by a good margin.

The threes took on a lively University team on the Creek.
We opened the scoring with a Sean Harrison try that was not converted. 5~0.
The students then took the lead with a converted try, 5~7.
We retook the lead when Tony Polo scored and Rohan Johnson kicked the conversion. 12~7.
It remained that way till half time.
We were much the stronger in the scrums pushing them back seriously, the lineouts were even. Tony Polo catching well.
After the break, the students got another converted try to lead by 12~14.
The game was tight, our forwards threatened to score on a number of occasions but the student's defence held them off the line, we had two 'held-up' try chances, it looked like only a matter of time before we did score because we were spending more time in their half than they were in ours.
With fewer than ten minutes to go the students's forwards started to push our scrum back quite firmly, on the first occasion we just about held their push but on the next couple they pushed us seriously backwards really for the first time, this gave then clean ball and enlivened them and close to the end they managed to run in a try from their own half to win by seven points.
Not long after their try the referee Corbin Turner blew for full time.

We have to say thanks to Corbin, he had been allocated the second's game against Exmouth II, but Jim Moss had a chat with him and he had agreed to do the thirds. They decided in view of him having to referee again that they would only play half an hour each way.
Without him the game would not have happened.
