Despite the squad being 14 short for various reasons Devonport Services were still too strong for a competitive Kingsbridge side who had injuries too. Services were further hampered by losing Rebecca Squires in the warm up due to her ankle injury flaring up again. So with reduced numbers in each side a strong start saw an excellent tackle from Georgia Baylis and the resulting counter rucking saw the ball passed through some hands until it came out wide to Georgia Baylis who broke down the wing to score the first try of the match which Jess Cooper converted. After a strong tackle from Megan Musgrave from the turnover Jessica Griffiths ran three quarters of the pitch to offload and eventually Olivia Francis scored near the touchline which went unconverted by Cooper. Services continued to dominate at this stage and Musgrave was next to score when she broke through a couple of tackle attempts to score which Cooper successfully converted to bring the score to 0-19.
Kingsbridge were getting their passing together now and scored the next try which went unconverted to reduce the lead to 5-19. From a penalty just about 10m Beth Little despite the best efforts of the defence powered over to score a converted try by Cooper to increase the lead to 5-26. Kingsbridge then had a period on top and scored the next two unconverted tries to reduce the arrears to 15-26.
Hellie Pascoe on her debut had a couple of strong runs with the ball and tackled excellently. Megan Heath was constantly turning the ball over as was Daisy French, Molly Turner and Mollie Hann and as a result of a strong tackle from Hann from the resulting turnover Cooper scored the next try which she didn't convert. Francis made the next break from her half to offload to French to score next which went unconverted to make the score 15-36. A strong run from Heath saw her gain lots of ground and then another run from Pascoe saw Musgrave score again which Cooper converted. Hann also got on the score sheet with Cooper kicking the extras for a final score of 15-50.
A good performance from both sides which had the watching spectators entertained.
